Easy to Use
It’s pretty easy to get started on Happn. After completing your profile, you can start connecting with people nearby wherever you are. Liking all of the people you think you want to get to know better will create the opportunity for a match should they replicate the like back. There is no search option (see more of which below), so it is all about a game of waiting for the eagle to land with a mutual like. As mentioned, it is interesting that you can detail what you are up to for the next six hours, and other special features include linking your account to a Spotify account and sending music to people by using the Crush feature. The Hello and Voice Message features offer more alternative methods of impressing your perfect match.
Free members are unable to search directly for people. The search profile features are only available if you upgrade to the paid subscription. Only then can you search by username or search by city, although the format of Happn means you are already matched with those in the vicinity in your area anyway.
Safety & Security
There is no verification process when joining Happn, which is one of the negatives of joining the dating app. The use on the map and locations also means that users will always be concerned about dating safety. Happn overcome this by showing you to be within 250 metres of your location, and not your exact whereabouts.
If you have any questions relating to security and safety, Happn has a help and FAQ section where you can find answers to your queries. You can also email Happn customer service directly.
Happn is a great alternative to Tinder if you are looking to really get to know people of nearby at the moment in time you are using the dating app. However, that very feature will leave some users querying a security risk given your location is shown to within 250 metres of your whereabouts. What the app is great for is finding people who are seeking the same things as you are, purely because you must like each other to get to talk. So you know you aren’t going to be inundated with messages from people who simply aren’t right for you. You can’t get very far with the free service, other than setting up your account and profile, so expect to have to subscribe to a monthly membership if you want to start crossing paths and talking to local singles. That will put off a lot of people, but if you’re willing to pay, Happn does offer something different from other dating apps.
